Proudly Canadian Fièrement Canadien™
Seal DescriptionThe Proudly Canadian Fièrement Canadien™ seal is more than an emblem. It is a heartbeat in red, white and black, the colours every Canadian instinctively knows, the colours that fly in our stadiums, our schools, our ceremonies and our memories.
At its centre burns the maple leaf. Not as a decoration, but as the living symbol of who we are. Below it rise the Rocky Mountains, symbolizing our strength and power. It holds the weight of our history and the promise of our future. It speaks for every person who has ever called this land home, from the coasts, the plains, the mountains and the Arctic expanse.
Encircling it are the symbols of the First Nations, Inuit and Métis peoples, our original storytellers, knowledge keepers and guardians of this land. Their presence in the seal is not ornamental. It is recognition. It is respect. It is truth.
Cutting boldly through the leaf is the check mark, sharp, confident, forward-leaning. It is the universal sign that something has been earned. Approved. Trusted. It stands here as a pledge that anything bearing this mark represents quality, integrity and pride in Canadian craftsmanship, service and character.
And wrapped around the seal, in both official languages, are the words that tie us together: Proudly Canadian Fièrement Canadien™. Not a translation, but a harmony. A reminder that our strength does not come from sameness, but from unity woven through difference.

This seal is built for Canadians who believe in Canada, not as an abstract idea, but as a daily choice. It is made for businesses that invest in their communities, for creators who craft with intention, for governments that stand behind the people they serve, and for every citizen who believes that supporting Canadian products and services strengthens us all.
When this seal appears, it does more than decorate. It declares. It declares that we stand behind our work.It declares that we honour the land and the people who shaped it.It declares that we carry our identity with pride, and we are not quiet about it.
Understanding the Distinction
The PCFC Seal and federal "Product of Canada / Made in Canada" claims operate in two entirely different regulatory universes. They don't clash, but clarity is essential to prevent confusion.
Federal Origin Claims
- •Legal advertising claims regulated by the Competition Act
- •Focus: Origin and manufacturing thresholds
- •"Product of Canada": 98%+ of costs in Canada
- •"Made in Canada": Majority of costs + last substantial transformation
- •Apply to: Products only
PCFC Seal
- •Voluntary business certification, not regulated origin claim
- •Focus: Values, commitments, and business practices
- •Evaluates: Workforce, wages, ethics, local sourcing, environmental practices, transparency
- •Apply to: Businesses, services, retailers, non-product entities
They Complement Each Other
A business can display both: a government-regulated origin label on a product, and a PCFC Seal on its business identity. One speaks to where the product came from. The other speaks to who the business is and what they stand for. It's provenance versus philosophy.
PCFC's Unique Advantage
The PCFC Seal is inclusive, while federal origin claims are restrictive. Many businesses support Canadian workers, communities, and ethical practices but can't meet the strict 98% manufacturing threshold for "Product of Canada."
PCFC recognizes businesses across all sectors—including services, retail, hospitality, and professional firms—who contribute meaningfully to Canada's economy, even if they don't manufacture products.
Clear Positioning Statement
"The PCFC Seal is not a country-of-origin label. It is a voluntary certification that recognizes Canadian businesses who commit to supporting Canadian workers, communities, and ethical practices. Government origin labels such as 'Made in Canada' and 'Product of Canada' remain the appropriate standards for origin-specific product claims."

Beware of Counterfeit or Unlicensed Seals
The Proudly Canadian Fièrement Canadien™ Certification Seal is a registered trademark and a symbol of verified commitment to Canada's economy, its workers, and its values. As PCFC membership grows, so do attempts by non-certified businesses to display imitation or unlicensed seals for financial benefit without contributing to Canadian jobs, ethics, or community investment.
These unauthorized uses mislead consumers and undermine the integrity of genuine certified members who meet PCFC's standards.
How to Protect Yourself
Only an official PCFC Seal with a valid Seal ID represents an authentic, certified Proudly Canadian Fièrement Canadien™ business. If a seal:
- ⚠Does not include a Seal ID
- ⚠Shows a design not matching official PCFC artwork
- ⚠Appears altered, recoloured, or recreated
- ⚠Appears on a business not listed in the public directory, or
- ⚠Appears on websites, packaging, or advertising without a verifiable certification
…it is likely unauthorized, counterfeit, or misrepresented. Consumers and partners should always verify certification using the official Seal ID lookup tool.
Why Counterfeit Seals Are Harmful
Businesses using unlicensed seals:
- ✗Exploit Canadian identity for profit without investing in Canadian workers
- ✗Mislead consumers into believing they support Canadian economic growth
- ✗Undermine certified members who uphold ethical, social, and environmental standards
- ✗Erode trust in a program designed to strengthen Canada's economy and pride
Unauthorized seal use is not just misleading; in some cases, it may constitute trademark infringement, false advertising, and a violation of the Competition Act.
Official Warning to Businesses
Use of any imitation or unlicensed version of the Proudly Canadian Fièrement Canadien™ Seal is strictly prohibited. PCFC enforces unauthorized use through:
- ⚡Immediate cease-and-desist orders
- ⚡Public advisories identifying unlicensed usage
- ⚡Suspension from future certification eligibility
- ⚡Civil legal action for trademark infringement and damages
- ⚡Referral to regulatory authorities where false or misleading representation occurs
If your business did not complete PCFC certification — you may not use the Seal. If your certification has expired, been suspended, or revoked — you must stop using the Seal.
Report Suspicious or Counterfeit Use
